Stencil
FAQ
Q. What type of
material are your stencils made out of?
A. Are stencils are made from
Falcon Clear PVC, a flexible hard wearing plastic.
Q. How
thick are your stencils?
A. They are 220 microns thick, the approximate weight of
thick cardboard. This means our stencils are tough as well as flexible so
can be used for many different purposes.
Q. What Paint should I use?
A. We find Acrylic paint to be the most suitable as it is
a quick drying, odourless water based paint. As it is soluble in water you
can easily clean brushes and stencils in water and leave no residue. You can
of course use oil paints and all materials need to be cleaned using white
spirit.
Q. Do I need to varnish over
my mural to protect it?
A. If the mural is painted indoors in a normal room, such
as a bedroom, then there is no need to paint over a finishing varnish as you
can gently wipe any marks such as fingerprints with a damp cloth. However
if you are using the stencils in a damp atmosphere such as a bathroom, a top
protective coat is advisable. In all cases do not use any abrasive substances
or cleaners or use harsh rubbing as this can damage the mural.
Q. What
paint surface is best for stencilling onto?
A. A plain matt surface is best. As you are painting a mural
it is also best to ensure that your surface is a neutral colour, white being
the most suitable. This is because some acrylic paints are slightly translucent
and this may cause the under colour to show through, affecting the shade of
your acrylic colour.
Q. Can I stencil onto other
surfaces?
A. Yes, you can use our stencils, for furniture such as beds
and drawers and fabric such as bedcovers and curtains.
Q. How do I remove the plastic
sections?
A. These are easily removed by popping the section out then
gently pulling it away from the edge; this will leave a completely smooth
edge with no ridges. As some of the stencils contain small sections, it is
best to place them immediately into the clear plastic envelope, in which they
are delivered, to keep them in one place to use for later. This also keeps
them away from tiny inquisitive hands.
