Step-by-Step Mural Painting Guide
What are Murals?
Murals are large pictures painted onto a wall and are excellent if you're looking for a bold theme to the room, also this will allow you to basically only have to paint one wall, if you want to, but still achieve a great result.
Murals are structured so it's very important to choose a complete design before you start, i.e. you should have an exact picture in your mind of what you want to transfer to the wall. Murals can be as simple or as complex as you are comfortable with, ranging from one or two characters to an entire scene.
The rest of the walls can then be painted one shade which complements your mural.
Achieving a result
The first thing is to decide on your design, this then needs to be drawn onto the wall in pencil so you can see the overall effect before going wild with the paint pots. This gives you a chance to check your scale and ensure that the picture is as you want. Then it's a matter of filling in the design, you will need to use some free hand drawing but this can be minimal depending on the design. Unfortunately there are no easy options here and although you can incorporate sponging or colourwashing techniques it's best to use just a paint brush and plenty of patience. For example painting a scene from Winnie the Pooh, on a wall is fun and you have lots of scenery choices, you can also mix and match characters it all depends on how confident you are.
