Step-by-Step Mural Painting Guide
Transfering the Design
So all your images are safely stored on the PC, now what you need are some Acetates also known as clear Transparency Films.
These are available at any computer software retailer and are relatively inexpensive. Before buying check your make of printer and ensure you buy the transparencies for you specific printer, if you are unsure make a note of your make and model and then ask an assistant in the shop to point you in the right direction. Now you need to print your greyscale images onto your acetates allowing them to dry before handling or they will smudge.
So how does this help? Next thing you need is an OHP or Over Head Projector. If your lucky you may be able to borrow one from somewhere, work or school, but if not you can hire them either by the day or longer.
Check your local Yellow pages under Audio and Visual, and you should be able to find an outlet.
In my experience I have found that if there isn't an outlet in your town then most companies will in fact deliver the OHP to you - for a nominal charge - and then pick it up again, which is great as it saves you all the hassle.
It's probably best to hire for a week if you are doing this as most firms will charge you for only three days, but you have the OHP for seven.Once you have your OHP set it up in the room, very simple just plug it in, then place your acetate on the glass and shine the image on the wall.
This will give you an exact picture of what the finished design will look like, so again if your not happy, now is the time for change. Also you will clearly be able to see the scale, is/are the images too big or too small? Most OHP's will allow you to adjust the size by a certain amount but bear in mind that this will distort the focus.Once you have you full image, take a pencil or chalk and draw around the outline on the wall. This will give you a perfect outline drawing, stand back once in while to check that you haven't missed bits.
All that's left to do now is fill the colour in.
