Step-by-Step Mural Painting GuideUsing Computers
Right for those of you who are not computer wizards - so that's 90% then, this is the really scary bit, only kidding, it's easy and will save you a monumental amount of hard work, especially if you are not confident in your free hand drawing ability.
As mentioned before you'll already have all the different images you want to use, okay first things first, have you got a scanner? If not don't worry there should be a computer shop or library in your area which has and will allow you to go along and use the equipment or will scan the pictures onto a disc for you, for a nominal fee.
Next step, if you have a scanner, firstly scan your images onto the PC and open them in your Picture viewer software. If your images are saved to disc then again copy them to your Picture viewer software. Create a file and save your scanned images.
Take each picture at a time open it and make any changes necessary, okay what does that mean, I hear you cry? If you are using the entire picture then that's great you can ignore this bit and go straight to the bottom, but if you want to morph images this is what you need to do.
Save the picture again as say Picture 2, then open it, this means if you make a mistake you still have the original image. Use the cut tool to extract the part of the image you want, for example if you have a picture of the Scooby Doo gang but only want Scooby and Shaggy then use the cut tool to highlight that section of the picture. Now go to Edit and Copy. Open a blank picture screen and paste the image into it. Save as Picture 3. You should now have 3 files containing different views of the same picture.
You then want to add your other character, say it's Goofy, do the same but this time paste the cut image of Goofy into your saved Picture 3, you should now have Scooby, Shaggy and Goofy all on the same picture. Save. Now jiggle about with the sizes until you're happy. Print the image.
Is it what you want? If not go back and make any changes, always remembering to save.If you have a background say the ski slopes and you just want to import the characters use the same technique. Within your software should be a section which will allow you to send the different images to the front or to the back i.e. behind the background or in front of it. Make sure your characters are to the front. Then again within your software, you should be able to make the imported characters' background transparent so all you see are the characters i.e. Mickey on skies, you will need to check your software capabilities, try the Help section first.
Save and print. You do not need to build up the entire picture in this way; you can just make different pictures for the different sections i.e. Tarzan swinging through the trees for the top section and some cheetahs in the bottom section. Remember with this though, you will need to check your picture scale and size.
Right now you have your image you need to change it to black and white, this makes it easier to transfer to the wall as the outlines are much sharper. Again check your software capabilities and use the Help section if you are unsure. However in most software if you look under colour it will allow you to change the shadings to greyscale. Change the image and save the result, if necessary make the picture darker to enhance the lines.
Your images are now complete and are ready to be transferred to the wall.
